Creative Challenge

Most of the time we see artists, musicians, & designers as creatives. Maybe its because their creativity comes in artistic forms. Being creative has nothing to do with art. It has everything to do with your imagination & the ideas that are given to you. Engineers are creative. So are fitness trainers, scientists, and even history teachers. Bottom line is, EVERYONE is creative.

We all have thoughts. We have our own imaginations and ideas. Therefore, we are creative. Not just that, but our Maker. The Creator of the heavens & the Earth. The One who knew us & created us before we were even in our mother's womb, He designed us each unique & special in our own ways. Yet He also created us in His image as well. This means that we also inherited the gift of creativity.

Creativity was hardwired into our DNA's before birth by God himself. When you take a step back to enjoy the beauty of the world around you does it not inspire you? Move you? If God made the plants & the animals that we all so appreciate and adore, what makes you think that He created you without creativity? God is a detailed being. He puts work into the finer details in our lives. From the dust that floats in the air, to the very grains of sand on the ocean shore. He planned it & fashioned it all together for us.

When we create, it pleases God. Why? Because we are merely reflecting His image when we do so. Our creativity is what makes us US. We see things differently from each other. We learn things at different speeds & in different forms. These are some of the things that makes each of us unique and rare.

John Piper writes,
"If you are God, your work is to create out of nothing. If you are not God, but like God — that is, if you are human — your work is to take what God has made and shape it and use it to make him look great." (Don't Waste Your Life, 139)
Have you ever wondered to yourself how your creativity could glorify Him? Or how it could help others? We each use our creativity in different ways. Artist's paint their expressions onto canvasses. Photographers capture beauty in their own ways. Fitness trainer's plan & personalize meal plans & workouts for their clients. Chef's cook with precise and careful combinations of perfect flavors & aroma. Lawyers observe, investigate, & thoroughly plan out their cases. Office assistants apply efficient & particular tasks to succeed in administering. I can go on & on.

How can our creativity align with glorifying God our Maker & Creator? Of course at times we bump into a Creative Block. Making you feel like you just have no ounce of creative juice left in you. Creating is definitely not easy. It takes time. Patience. When it comes to creating, "patience is a virtue."

Enough with all the pointing at the artists. You are just as creative as they are. Just in your own way. So, instead of having this type of attitude, lets think of ways we can use our creativity to bring glory to God. How can you use your creativity to help your community? Your church? Or even your family?

If you're stuck in a rut and don't know where to start just like myself, then join me! Are you up for a creative challenge? One of my goals for this year is to do ONE thing a day that challenges my creativity. Whether it be drawing, singing, painting, or even writing. The list goes on.

When we continue to use & share our creative juices to those around us, it broadens our knowledge & widens our hearts. If you've been just too busy with your 9-5 job, or chasing & chauffeuring your kids back & forth, you may feel like you don't really know where to start.

I'm designing a 30 day Creative Challenge & I encourage you to join me. Let's find a way to put our expressions into tangible forms. Lets create in community. Please share this with your friends as well. I'll publish the challenge here on my blog as soon as possible. Follow me to find out how you can get involved. Let's prepare ourselves to be inspired by God to use our creative gifts to radiate His light & love.

How do you keep your creative juices flowing? Have you ever experienced creative block?
Share your creative gifts below. I'd love to learn more about you.

  2. I have always struggled with using my passions in a way that also glorified God. Sometimes you feel like you have to keep them separate from each other. It took me sometime to finally realize that I am this creative person because of Him, only! Can't wait for this challenge to start.
